Rubbish Collection Finchley Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Rubbish Collection Finchley in respect of our financial year ending 31 December 2025. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We acknowledge our responsibility to respect human rights and to act ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Rubbish Collection Finchley provides waste and recycling services to residential, commercial and community customers in and around Finchley. Our operations rely on a range of suppliers, including providers of vehicles, fuel, personal protective equipment, uniforms, maintenance services, and office supplies. We recognise that risks of modern slavery can exist at any level of the supply chain, particularly where there is intensive manual labour, use of temporary or migrant labour, or complex sourcing arrangements.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We operate a strict zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour and all forms of exploitation. This applies to our own activities and to all those who work with us or on our behalf. We expect all employees, contractors, agency staff and suppliers to uphold this commitment and to comply with all relevant legislation. Any breach of this position will be treated as a serious matter and may result in disciplinary action, termination of contracts, or referral to the relevant authorities.
Governance and Responsibility
Overall responsibility for overseeing our approach to modern slavery rests with the company directors. Operational managers are responsible for implementing this statement within their teams, including ensuring that staff understand our expectations and know how to report concerns. All employees share responsibility for remaining vigilant, refusing to tolerate abuses, and raising issues promptly if they suspect any form of exploitation.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We are committed to working only with suppliers who share our standards on human rights and labour practices. As part of our procurement and ongoing supplier management processes, we aim to:
Assess the risk of modern slavery within each supplier category, focusing on high-risk sectors such as cleaning, temporary labour, and certain goods manufactured overseas. Require key suppliers to confirm their own compliance with modern slavery laws and to demonstrate that they have policies and controls in place. Include clear clauses in contracts that prohibit modern slavery and allow us to take action if concerns arise. Conduct proportionate supplier audits, which may include document reviews, site visits and worker interviews where appropriate, to verify compliance and follow up on any identified issues. Where risks or non-conformances are found, we will work with the supplier to implement corrective actions within defined timeframes or, if necessary, reconsider the business relationship.
Training and Awareness
We are progressively embedding awareness of modern slavery risks across our workforce. Managers and staff involved in procurement, recruitment and frontline operations receive guidance on recognising indicators of exploitation, such as signs of coercion, restriction of freedom of movement, withholding of documents or wages, and unreasonable working conditions. We will continue to update our internal materials so that our teams are equipped to identify and respond to concerns effectively.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
We encourage anyone connected with our business, including employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers, to raise concerns about modern slavery without fear of retaliation. Concerns can be reported through multiple channels, including line managers, senior management, or a dedicated confidential reporting route within the company. All reports are taken seriously, investigated promptly and, where appropriate, escalated to law enforcement or other external bodies. We will support individuals who speak up and will not tolerate any form of victimisation against those who raise concerns in good faith.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that addressing modern slavery is an ongoing process, not a one-off exercise. Rubbish Collection Finchley is committed to continually improving our systems and controls, guided by emerging best practice and feedback from stakeholders. This statement will be reviewed at least annually to assess the effectiveness of our actions, identify gaps, and set priorities for the coming year. We will update the statement where necessary to reflect changes in our business operations, supply chains, or legal requirements, and to demonstrate our continuing commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking.
Approval of this Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement has been approved by the directors of Rubbish Collection Finchley, who are responsible for ensuring its implementation and review.
